10% of the U.S. population reports having nail fungus, which can actually be a chronic and progressive illness. If left untreated, this can lead to social embarrassment (especially for women), pain, and serious infections.
Home and over-the-counter remedies generally do not work. Oral anti-fungal medications have risky and potentially very harmful side effects, while also requiring long periods of medication and no guarantee of success.
The PinPointe Foot Laser is FDA-approved for treatment of chronic nail fungus and associated nail deformities, and Dr. Toth is the only provider of this specific service in northern New England. Until now, patients from all over Maine and New Hampshire have had to travel to his clinic in Portland for this treatment.
With the PinPointe Laser added to our list of specialities, Maine Laser Skin Care is the only practitioner in central and northern Maine to offer such services. Dr. Christopher Toth, a specialist who uses the PinPointe Laser to combat toenail fungus, will be in our offices two days per month to offer his services.
Dr. Toth graduated from McGill University in Montreal, and completed his medical education at the Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He received further surgical training at Cornell and Mount Sinai in New York City, as well as Emory University in Atlanta. He is also one of the few doctors in this country who has trained at the International Aesthetic Foot Society.
For each patient, Dr Toth will perform an initial exam and consultation with discussion of details of the procedure and cost versus benefits. Before each laser nail treatment, he will perform a sterile medical pedicure, followed by a 30 minute laser treatment.
