The Power of Aging

power_walkingI know that you may be looking at the headline of this blog post, “The Power of Aging”, and are saying to yourself something along the lines of “Is he kidding?”.  Well, hear me out.

Many people fear aging; other worry about it and its consequences.  The process of aging is inevitable, but your attitude toward aging will affect your opinion of the changes going on in your body, skin and face.

I see the treatments I do here at Maine Laser Skin Care and Medispa as aiding in the process of aging.  If you can look in the mirror and see the person looking back at you as comfortable and confident with their appearance as a result of my efforts, then I will have done my job well.

I frequently tell people that no one can make them look 18 again, nor should you want them to do so.  Attempts to find the Fountain of Youth where aging film stars make radical changes in their appearance often result in unwanted and even freakish looks.

Most people outside of Hollywood want to look like younger versions of themselves (i.e. more relaxed and well rested), but not like “they had work done”.  Every decade of life presents different challenges in terms of appearance.   Obviously, the concerns of the teenager with acne breakouts are different from the person in their 50s who has tanned all their life and now sees all the sun damage that resulted as if for the first time.

The fact of the matter is that we are all constantly changing and evolving.  We all want to be comfortable with our appearance and look the best and the healthiest versions of ourselves.

There is really nothing to fear about aging if you pay attention to common sense maintenance of this wonderful body of ours.  Also, corrective action for aspects of aging that you don’t like puts the power in your hands.

water_glassFor starters, drink plenty of water, get 7-8 hours of sleep at night, get regular exercise, and use your sunblock every day.  If you see some aspect of your appearance that you don’t like or makes you feel older or bad about yourself, there is probably a solution available through the emerging science of aesthetic technologies.

Don’t be an innocent bystander in the aging process.  Take control of your life and find out what works best for you and what you are most comfortable with.

For some, it is Botox.  For others, it is fillers or lasers or micro needling . . . Remember, you can regain your power by appreciating the wisdom you have gained over the years and looking your best.

For all of us, the highest compliment is when someone finds out your real age and then says “I can’t believe you are X years old.”  I hope that I can help you keep similar compliments coming for many years to come.
