How To Stop Skin Aging

photodamage_before_afterThis morning, as I was drinking my coffee and reviewing many of the medical journals I accumulate, I came across a study about facial photodamage.  I thought it might be of interest to many of you, especially since it is summer and more outside activities are ongoing.

As you may know, photodamage to the skin is a consequence of sunlight exposure.  This damage typically occurs on the areas of most chronic sun exposure such as the face, ears, neck, upper chest and hands.

One study, presented at a dermatology meeting in Maui earlier this year, evaluated the use of a 3-step system of anti-aging skin care products on the treatment of those with photodamage.  The 3 steps for the 3 month study included daily use of :

  • An exfoliating cleanser
  • 0.5% retinol
  • SPF-30 moisturizing sunscreen

Initial photos were taken on the first day of the study, and then again on days 14, 28, 56 and 84 to assess response to this treatment combination.  The photos were then graded on a 7-point grading scale by the investigators with the study participants also completing a self-assessment.

The majority of patients had no side effects.  Those that did have side effects reported only mild dryness and redness that occurred early in treatment and decreased over the study time.

The basic idea continues to be the importance of protecting and nourishing your skin to prevent damage and addressing the early signs of prior skin aging to have a soft, radiant and healthy complexion.  Feel free to call us at  (207) 873-2158 to order these items, or order online to get the benefits of this study on your skin.
