Despite the fact that women represent the majority of Maine Laser Skin Care visitors, I am seeing consistently more and more men who want to pay attention to and correct their overall appearance. More men are having laser treatments to remove age spots and the redness of rosacea, as well as Botox and fillers to reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles.
However, the biggest problem with almost all male patients is that they neglect the aftercare instructions and ongoing skincare maintenance. My personal view (or excuse for them) is that men are not trained from an early age to apply skincare products to their face routinely the way young women and girls are.
For some reason, despite all the publicly available information about skin cancer risks and the desire to treat aging effects of the sun, men consistently refuse to use, or at least neglect the use of, sunscreen. Perhaps men remember the thick or greasy sunscreens of their youth, but modern products have been specially formulated to be very friendly to the male skin.
Another important aspect of male facial skin care is dealing with dryness, especially in men who spend lots of time outside in the fall and winter. This dryness can be treated with the use of a hydrating or moisturizing sunscreen.
The moisturizer component can keep the skin looking younger and less rough, while the sunscreen will protect the skin from harmful ultraviolet rays that causes age spots and wrinkles. Finally, a product that will kill two birds with one stone!
So men, suck it up! After you shower and shave, put on a moisturizing sunscreen every morning and you will be ahead of the game. Your skin will thank you, and so will the women in your life.
