Get Rid of Unwanted Fat For Good

weight_scaleI hear the same story over and over again.  You try to do everything right to get rid of that unwanted fat.

You diet, you exercise, and you eat the right foods, yet still there are pockets of fat on your body that will not go away.  It is not fair, but sometimes diet and exercise alone are not enough to target certain areas of the body.

Additionally (and again, unfairly), even when you lose weight, your fat cells do not go away.  Instead, they simply shrink.

In problem areas such as the abdomen and “love handle” areas, the fat cells will persist and are resistant to shrinking.  The only lasting solution, especially for these problem areas, is to get rid of the fat cells, not just the weight.

Not too long ago, the only way to remove fat cells was by way of invasive and surgical treatments in the form of liposuction and its variations.  More recently, however, technologies have been developed that remove fat cells less invasively, with minimal downtime, and with no anesthesia risk.

For the “double chin” area, Kybella is FDA-approved and available through appropriately trained doctor’s offices in the past year, including mine.  I have performed numerous Kybella treatments here at Maine Laser Skin Care in Augusta and at a satellite spa in southern Maine over the past year that have yielded excellent results.

kybella-before-afterA Kybella treatment begins with a consultation to determine if you are an appropriate candidate.  If you are approved for Kybella, the next step is for me to evaluate the anatomy of your neck area to determine the best location for treatment.

After I apply a local topical anesthetic to the neck region, I perform a series of injections that place deoxycholic acid directly into the fat pocket.  When the medication makes contact with fat, it immediately begins the process of “melting” the fat from a solid to a liquid state.

Your body then begins the process of reabsorbing the fat from the damaged and killed fat cells.  As a result, when the fat is gone, it cannot return as the fat cells are gone as well!

rsz_coolsculpting_in_actionIn the other problem areas lower down in the body, we have another revolutionary technology to remove fat cells called Coolsculpting.  This procedure is totally non-surgical and does not require any anesthesia, needles, incisions or downtime.

Coolsculpting freezes fat, which actually decreases the number of fat cells in the treated areas by 20-25% with each treatment.  The act of freezing actually kills the fat cells, after which your body naturally eliminates them resulting in the treated location appearing more sculpted.

Coolsculpting is FDA-cleared for treating the abdomen, flanks (love handles), inner and outer thighs, bra fat bulges, and back fat.  The procedure takes about an hour for each cycle, which is a treatment to one specific location.  After the procedure, you can walk right out of our offices and resume your normal activities without restriction.

fat cellsAs your body starts to reabsorb the fat and remove the dead fat cells, you can see body-shaping results as soon as 3 weeks with clothing not feeling as tight over the treated area.  Full results of each individual treatments are usually seen in 2-3 months.

The best news about both Kybella and Coolsculpting is that once the fat cells are treated, killed & eliminated, they are gone for good.  Even if you were to gain weight (God forbid), you would not gain weight in those treated areas.  Finally, something about body fat that is fair!

If you are interested in a free and confidential consultation on either or both of these body sculpting technologies, feel free to call us at (207) 873-2158 to schedule an appointment.  As the Coolsculpting ads say, then you will fear no mirror!
